Dillon Danis, banned for life from UFC events
Fighter Dillon Danis, known for being Conor McGregor’s former training partner, has been banned for life from UFC events, according to the company’s CEO, Dana White. Danis was involved in a fight with several members of UFC champion Islam Makhachev’s team during the UFC 322 event on Saturday at Madison Square Garden. The altercation occurred near the cage, moments before the start of the main card, where Makhachev headlined a welterweight title fight against Jack Della Maddalena. Several videos show Danis in a fight with Makhachev’s teammates, Abubakar Nurmagomedov and Magomed Zaynukov. In the press conference after the UFC 322 event, White told reporters that he would not press charges against Danis, but indicated that the 32-year-old fighter would never again be welcome at a UFC event. Danis was in McGregor’s corner in 2018, when McGregor lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov in a UFC title fight in Las Vegas. The two squads maintained an intense rivalry before that fight. The rivalry has calmed down a bit over the years. However, Nurmagomedov and Makhachev have been teammates for a long time, and Danis mocked Makhachev in several social media posts during fight week.I was on the other side [of the Octagon] and I said, ‘Fuck, I know exactly what this is,'” White said about the fight. “You will never see Dillon Danis in a UFC fight again.”
