Diego Sánchez Arrested After Alleged Shooting from a Vehicle
Former UFC champion Diego Sanchez was arrested Thursday in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on suspicion of firing a firearm from the window of a moving vehicle.
According to online records, Sanchez, 43, faces charges for shooting from or at a motorized vehicle, with the possibility of causing serious bodily harm, as well as negligent use of a deadly weapon. As of yet, no bail has been set for his release.
The incident, which involved a Jeep Gladiator, occurred while the vehicle was passing by the scene of a traffic accident. Despite Sánchez denying having fired the weapon, the police proceeded to arrest him. The driver of the vehicle was not detained in connection with the event.
Sánchez, who was released by the UFC in 2020 after a series of lackluster performances and a public dispute with his then-manager, remained active in bare-knuckle boxing in 2023. He was scheduled to compete again earlier this year, but the event was canceled. The fighter gained recognition after his participation in the first season of The Ultimate Fighter in 2004.
