Yankees Activate Injured List for Yerry de los Santos

The New York Yankees have placed reliever Yerry de los Santos on the 15-day injured list due to right elbow discomfort.

The 27-year-old right-handed pitcher has had an outstanding performance in his first season with the Yankees, showing an ERA of 1.80 in 14 relief appearances.

In Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels, De los Santos allowed a hit and a walk, retiring one batter in the sixth inning, in a game that ended in a 3-2 loss.

To cover his absence in the bullpen, the team has brought in left-handed pitcher Jayvien Sandridge, who has been called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Sandridge, 26, is in his seventh season in the minor leagues and has yet to debut in MLB. So far this season, he has a 1-1 record with a 3.00 ERA and two saves in 10 games.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees have transferred infielder/outfielder Oswaldo Cabrera (fractured left ankle) to the 60-day injured list.
