Juan Soto, out of action due to flu: Mets adjust their lineup

NEW YORK – Dominican outfielder Juan Soto will not be in the New York Mets’ lineup for the second consecutive day due to a bad flu, according to manager Carlos Mendoza before the start of the series against the Cincinnati Reds at Citi Field.

Soto was absent from Sunday’s game after presenting fever, body aches, and difficulty sleeping, symptoms that have affected him for several days.

While Soto recovers, Nick Morabito will cover left field and Carson Benge will be the designated hitter in the first game of the series against Cincinnati.

Soto’s absence is a challenge for the Mets, who are already facing other significant absences in their squad.

  • Ronny Mauricio
  • Luis Robert Jr.
  • Kodai Senga
  • Clay Holmes

Before getting sick, Soto was in a good offensive moment. In his last seven games, he batted .333, with four home runs and seven RBIs.

The Santo Domingo outfielder has been key in New York’s offense in the 2026 season, with 10 home runs and an OPS of .949.

The Mets are looking to improve their offensive performance while awaiting Soto’s return to the lineup.
