Aaron Boone Ejected for the Fifth Time This Season
The Yankees manager, Aaron Boone, was ejected for the fifth time this season during the third inning of Sunday’s game against the Houston Astros. Boone protested a decision by home plate umpire Derek Thomas regarding a sinker pitch from Jason Alexander to Ryan McMahon.Boone continued arguing for about another minute, while the third base umpire, Jordan Baker, intervened. McMahon’s at-bat ended with a fly ball to center field. After the Yankees’ 7-1 defeat, Boone commented.“I’ve heard enough from you, Aaron,” Thomas replied, proceeding to eject him.

Last season, Boone was ejected six times. Since taking over as manager in 2018, Boone has been ejected 44 times. The Astros were leading 2-0 when Boone was ejected. In the fifth inning, Yankees starting pitcher Max Fried thought a third strike had been called against Cam Smith, but a ball was called. Smith finished the at-bat with a two-run double, extending the Astros’ lead to 4-0.“I was on him a lot in the early innings. That’s already happened and it is what it is, and that’s not the reason we lost this game.”

“It would have been nice,” Fried said. “Nobody’s going to look back and really care. You have to be able to make the pitch and get out of it.”
