Tigers Bolster Bullpen with Paul Sewald
The Detroit Tigers have made a strategic move to strengthen their bullpen. The team acquired pitcher Paul Sewald, who is currently undergoing rehabilitation, from the Cleveland Guardians.
Sewald, 35, has been out of action due to a shoulder injury and is expected to return to the field in September. So far this season, he has participated in 18 games, recording an ERA of 4.70.
The experience of this veteran, with nine seasons in the MLB, could be crucial for the Tigers in the final innings of the games, where the bullpen has recently shown some difficulties. Sewald has playoff experience, having participated with the Arizona Diamondbacks during his outstanding career in 2023, reaching the World Series.
Throughout his career, Sewald has accumulated 86 saves in 377 appearances, defending the colors of the New York Mets, Seattle Mariners, Diamondbacks and now, the Guardians.
In the agreement, the Tigers will send Cleveland a player to be named later or financial considerations.
