CLEVELAND – Guardians outfielder Lane Thomas was activated from the injured list before Monday night’s game against the Cincinnati Reds. In the game, Thomas went 1-for-3 with two walks and two strikeouts. The Guardians lost 7-4.
Thomas missed 11 games due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot. So far this season, he has participated in 18 games, with a batting average of .129. Previously, he was out for five weeks due to a bone contusion in his right wrist after being hit by a pitch during the home opener against the White Sox on April 8.
To make room for Thomas, infielder Will Wilson was optioned to Triple-A Columbus.
In addition, the Guardians announced that pitcher Andrew Walters and outfielder Will Brennan underwent surgery on Monday.
Walters underwent surgery on his right shoulder to repair the latissimus dorsi (lat). The injury occurred during a game against the Angels on May 29.Walters’ surgery was performed in Chicago by Dr. Anthony Romeo, a shoulder specialist.
Brennan underwent Tommy John surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow. The procedure was performed in Dallas, following consultation with the team’s medical staff and specialist Dr. Keith Meister.
Walters and Brennan are expected to report to the Guardians’ spring training complex in Goodyear, Arizona, in the coming days to begin rehabilitation. Walters is estimated to be out of action for eight to ten months, while Brennan could be out for six to eight months.
