Adley Rutschman to the Injured List with Oblique Strain
The Baltimore Orioles have placed catcher Adley Rutschman on the 10-day injured list due to a right oblique strain.
The decision, announced Thursday and retroactive to Monday, comes less than a month after Rutschman returned from the injured list after being out five weeks with a left oblique strain.
In his fourth season since being selected with the first pick of the 2019 draft, Rutschman is batting .227 with nine home runs and 29 RBIs in 85 games.
The interim manager, Tony Mansolino, announced that rookie Samuel Basallo will be in the starting lineup.
Basallo, 21 years old, debuted in the Major Leagues on Sunday after being called up from Triple-A Norfolk.
Basallo drove in the go-ahead run in the 11th inning of Tuesday’s game in Boston and is one of the few players in Orioles history to drive in at least one run in each of his first three games.
