Rockies Break Streak: First Shutout After 220 Games, Tanner Gordon Shined

The Colorado Rockies broke a losing streak by achieving a shutout victory. Rookie right-handed pitcher Tanner Gordon threw six immaculate innings, leading the Rockies to defeat the St. Louis Cardinals with a score of 6-0 this Wednesday. This victory marked the first shutout for the team since May 15, 2024, ending a streak of 220 games without managing to keep their opponent scoreless.

I didn’t know about that… It’s been a long time without a shutout. But I’m glad we shut out the other team today. It was good with Gordon on the mound. Gordon did a fantastic job.

Colorado was the only team in Major League Baseball since 1901 that surpassed 200 games without a shutout. Historically, only the Washington Senators, with 383 games between 1893 and 1896, and the St. Louis Browns/Perfectos, with 298 games between 1897 and 1899, had longer streaks in MLB history, according to league data.

The Rockies’ last shutout came in an 8-0 victory against the Padres last season. The last home shutout was a 2-0 victory over the Athletics on July 30, 2023. Gordon (2-2) allowed four hits, struck out three batters and conceded three walks, becoming the first Rockies rookie since Kyle Freeman in 2017 to pitch at least six innings without allowing a run in a game at Coors Field. The Rockies (26-76) have won consecutive series for the first time this season, taking two of three games against the Cardinals after winning two of three against Minnesota last weekend.
