Austin Riley out for the rest of the season

Atlanta Braves third baseman Austin Riley will not play anymore in the current season. This is due to surgery for a core injury, according to the team’s announcement.

The surgical intervention was performed on Thursday by Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia.

Riley, who had already been placed on the 10-day injured list for the second time in two months on August 4 due to a strain in his lower abdominal muscle, is expected to be recovered for spring training next year.

The player was initially placed on the injured list on July 12th for an abdominal strain. He returned on July 25th and finished the season with a batting average of .260, 16 home runs, and 54 RBIs.

Additionally, the Braves claimed right-handed pitcher Cal Quantrill from the Miami Marlins’ waivers and sent right-handed pitcher Dane Dunning to Triple-A Gwinnett.

The team also added outfielder Jake Fraley to their roster, after sending right-handed pitcher Connor Seabold to Gwinnett. Fraley was designated for assignment by Cincinnati on Sunday before being claimed by the Braves.

Left-handed pitcher Dylan Dodd was called up from Gwinnett, and infielder Luke Williams was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a left oblique strain.
