Red Sox Bolster First Base with Ryan Noda

The Boston Red Sox have finalized the acquisition of first baseman Ryan Noda, coming from the Los Angeles Angels, in a deal involving cash, according to sources close to the matter.

Noda, who had been designated for assignment by the Angels, becomes a new option for the Red Sox at first base.

Following the transfer, Noda was sent to the Triple-A affiliate in Worcester. This move was made simultaneously with the transfer of outfielder Masataka Yoshida to the 60-day injured list, freeing up space on the 40-player roster.

The need to reinforce first base arose after the injury to Triston Casas, who suffered a knee injury that will keep him out of action for the rest of the season.

In the 2023-24 seasons, Noda, 29, played in 164 games with the Oakland Athletics, recording a batting average of .212, 17 home runs, 58 RBIs, and an OPS of .713. This season, he played 38 games in Triple-A Salt Lake, with a .148 average, four home runs, eight RBIs, and an OPS of .633.
