Rays, Angels, and Reds Star in a Three-Team Trade
The Tampa Bay Rays have finalized a trade involving the Los Angeles Angels and the Cincinnati Reds, moving several key pieces between the three organizations.
Gardener Josh Lowe joins the Angels, while left-handed reliever Brock Burke moves from the Angels to the Reds. Infielder Gavin Lux moves from the Reds to the Rays, and minor league right-handed pitcher Chris Clark arrives at the Rays from the Angels.
Josh Lowe, who will turn 28 on February 2nd, had a challenging season with a batting average of .220, 11 home runs, and 40 RBIs. He suffered a right oblique injury, which limited his participation on the field.
Lowe is under contract for one year and $2.6 million, and is expected to be eligible for free agency after the 2028 World Series. In his career, he is batting .250 with 43 home runs and 170 RBIs in five seasons in the Major Leagues, all with the Rays.
Gavin Lux, 28 years old, batted .269 with five home runs and 53 RBIs in his only season with the Reds. He recently agreed to a one-year contract for $5.525 million and will be eligible for free agency after this year’s World Series.
In his career, Lux has a .256 average with 33 home runs and 208 RBIs in six seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Reds, who acquired him last January.
Brock Burke, 29, recorded a 7-1 record with a 3.36 ERA in 68 relief appearances and one start for the Angels. His salary is $2.325 million and he will also be eligible for free agency after this year’s World Series.
Chris Clark, 24, was selected in the fifth round of the 2023 draft. He had a 4-10 record with an ERA of 4.73 in 20 starts last year for Class A Inland Empire, High A Tri-City, and Double-A Rocket City.
