ST. LOUIS – The Pittsburgh Pirates made significant moves on their roster this Tuesday, including the designation for assignment of left-handed pitcher Andrew Heaney and the activation of center fielder Oneil Cruz.
Heaney Out of Roster
Andrew Heaney, who had a difficult performance, was designated for assignment. The pitcher allowed five runs in the fifth inning of Monday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals, resulting in a 7-6 loss. Heaney, 34, signed with the Pirates in the offseason on a one-year contract.
Cruz Returns From Concussion List
Oneil Cruz was activated from the concussion injured list. The player suffered a collision with left fielder Jack Suwinski on August 13 while trying to catch a ball.
Other Roster Moves
In addition to these changes, the Pirates called up right-handed pitcher Dauri Moreta from Triple-A Indianapolis and sent infielder/outfielder Ronny Simon to Indianapolis.Right-handed pitchers Justin Lawrence and lefty Tim Mayza had their rehab assignments transferred from Low-A Bradenton to Indianapolis.
