Philadelphia Phillies Acquire Harrison Bader
The Philadelphia Phillies have reached an agreement to acquire outfielder Harrison Bader from the Minnesota Twins, according to sources close to the negotiation.
In the agreement, the Twins will receive in return two prospects: outfielder Hendry Méndez and right-handed pitcher Geremy Villoria.
Bader, 31 years old, arrives to reinforce the Phillies’ outfield, providing outstanding defense and a right-handed bat that will complement left-handed hitters Max Kepler and Brandon Marsh.
Bader won a Gold Glove playing in center field with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2021. This season, playing in left field, he has proven to be an outstanding defender, and he also continues to show defensive qualities in center.
Offensively, Bader has had one of his best seasons, with a .258/.338/.439 average, 12 home runs, and 10 stolen bases in 96 games. His OPS against right-handed and left-handed pitchers is similar, but Bader is expected to play primarily against left-handed pitchers.
Bader’s deal includes a mutual option of $10 million for 2026, which could increase based on playing time thresholds.
Méndez, 21 years old, has been playing in Double-A with a .290/.374/.434 average in 85 games. Villoria, a 16-year-old from Venezuela, has been pitching in the Phillies’ Dominican academy. Neither of them was considered among the Phillies’ top prospects.
