Pete Crow-Armstrong Makes History with the Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs’ center fielder, 23-year-old Pete Crow-Armstrong, has achieved a historic feat in baseball. On Friday, he hit his 30th home run of the season, a milestone that makes him the first player in franchise history to reach 30 RBIs, 30 stolen bases, and 30 doubles in the same season. This achievement also places him as the sixth player in the Major Leagues this season to record at least 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases. Crow-Armstrong joins Sammy Sosa as the second Cubs player to hit 30 home runs and steal 30 bases. Sosa achieved this feat in 1993 and 1995. This season, other players who have reached this mark are Corbin Carroll of Arizona, Jazz Chisholm Jr. of the New York Yankees, Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto of the New York Mets, and José Ramírez of Cleveland. After the game, Crow-Armstrong expressed his satisfaction with this achievement.

I think this means I’ve improved in the last few years. I’m proud of my development and of seeing the progression I’ve had each year I’ve played professional baseball.

Crow-Armstrong’s home run, a two-run shot of 396 feet against a curveball from Miles Mikolas, gave Chicago a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning. In addition to his 30 home runs, Crow-Armstrong has stolen 35 bases and hit 37 doubles. However, this was only his second home run in his last 29 games and the third in his last 55. Despite his outstanding defense, Crow-Armstrong’s performance with the bat has declined in the second half of the season. His batting average, which was .273 on August 1, has dropped to .245.

Crow-Armstrong reflected on his performance this season.

It’s been a season divided into two halves. I’ve been honest with myself and analyzed how the second half has been.

The Cubs’ victory over the St. Louis Cardinals reduced their magic number to one to secure the National League wild card and home-field advantage. The teams will face each other in the first round starting next Tuesday. Crow-Armstrong expressed his desire to play in the playoffs.

I want to play playoff baseball. More than talking about other things, I just want to win more games.

Crow-Armstrong’s achievement was celebrated by the fans, including one who recovered the home run ball in exchange for a personal meeting and memorabilia. Crow-Armstrong commented on the fan’s gesture.

The man who got it, said it was his first Cubs game in about 30 years. That was great.
