Pasquantino Advocates for Lugo’s Stay in the Royals
Kansas City Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino expressed his wish that pitcher Seth Lugo continue wearing the team’s uniform, following the 8-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs.Lugo, 35 years old, had an outstanding performance on the mound, pitching six solid innings in the sweltering heat, which contributed to Kansas City’s 50th win of the season. The Royals are in the fight for a wild card spot in the American League, although they are still three games below .500 as the MLB trade deadline approaches next week. Lugo, who will become a free agent at the end of the season, could be an attractive player for another team. The Royals manager, Matt Quatraro, acknowledged the speculation surrounding Lugo, but emphasized the desire to keep him on the team.“I’d like to see him pitch for us again,” Pasquantino stated. “I’d really like to see him in a Royals jersey in his next start. We’re trying to make that happen. It’s up to us.”

Lugo, for his part, was pleased with Pasquantino’s support and expressed his desire to remain with the Royals.“His name is brought up frequently, especially here in Chicago,” Quatraro commented. “I’m aware of it. We talk openly about it, understanding that we like what we have here. We believe that if we can string together some good games, we can get back in the fight.”

After a day off on Thursday, the Royals will begin a home series that will take them up to the July 31st trade deadline. Lugo was scheduled to start against the Atlanta Braves next week, but it remains to be seen if he will take the mound as planned.“I want to be here through thick and thin,” Lugo affirmed. “We are a good team. We just need to be more consistent and we’ll be fine.”

“I start today,” he said. “Day off tomorrow, and then back to work. Control what I can control. Follow my routine. Follow my business.”
