The San Diego Padres have placed right-handed pitcher Michael King on the 15-day injured list due to inflammation in his left knee.

King, who has a 4-2 record with an ERA of 2.81, had just returned from the injured list last Saturday. In his last outing, he allowed two runs in two innings, in a no-decision game against the Boston Red Sox.

This was his first opening since May 18, due to inflammation in his shoulder.

Now, King returns to the injured list with a knee problem, retroactive to Monday.

This situation represents a setback for the Padres team, which is in a great moment, with a streak of five consecutive victories.

The Padres are preparing for a weekend matchup against the Dodgers in Los Angeles. San Diego, which is in first place, is 1 game behind Los Angeles in the National League West Division.

King was scheduled to be the opener in the first game of the series on Friday.

In a corresponding move on the roster, the Padres called up right-handed pitcher Randy Vásquez from Triple-A El Paso.
