Tragedy in the Orioles: Young prospect Luis Guevara passes away

The Baltimore Orioles organization announced the sad news of the passing of young infielder Luis Guevara, who was only 19 years old. The information was communicated on Tuesday night, plunging the team and the baseball community into mourning. The franchise has not revealed the cause of the promising player’s death. Guevara was signed by the Orioles as an international free agent in 2023. The young Venezuelan participated in 30 games during this season, his first in the United States, spread across three levels. He played 24 games with the Single-A Delmarva team, four with the FCL Orioles, and two with the Double-A Chesapeake team. His last outing was on Saturday, where he went 1-3 with an RBI for the FCL Orioles at the Pirate City complex in Bradenton, Florida.

“Luis was a much-loved member of our organization, and we are devastated by his tragic passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and teammates, and we ask that their privacy be respected during this difficult time,” said Mike Elias, executive vice president and general manager of the Orioles, in a statement.
