Shohei Ohtani Hits 40th Home Run with the Dodgers

In a standout night for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Shohei Ohtani once again demonstrated his power by hitting his 40th home run of the season. The hit, which traveled 417 feet, significantly contributed to the team’s victory over the Toronto Blue Jays with a score of 9-1. The impressive home run, a solo shot, occurred in the fifth inning against starting pitcher Chris Bassitt, extending the Dodgers’ lead to three runs.

That was one of those swings where he was behind the ball. He stayed on the ground. I know he and the hitting coaches have been working on some things mechanically. It was the best swing you could see.

This 40-home run mark represents the fourth time Ohtani has reached this figure in his career, and the third consecutive season he has achieved it. It is important to note that Ohtani has been awarded the Most Valuable Player award in each of the previous seasons in which he reached this milestone. Ohtani joins Jim Thome and Mark McGwire as the only players with multiple seasons of 40 or more home runs in both leagues, the American and the National. Achieving 40 home runs came in his 115th game of the season, setting a new record in Dodgers history. With 45 games remaining in the regular season, manager Dave Roberts was asked about the possibility of Ohtani reaching 55 home runs.

I wouldn’t be surprised. Players like Shohei are always looking for something to motivate them. He likes round numbers. I know 50 is on his radar. We’ll see how it goes.
