Kodai Senga Leaves Game Due to Injury
New York Mets starting pitcher Kodai Senga had to leave Thursday’s game against the Washington Nationals due to an apparent right leg injury.
The situation occurred in the sixth inning, with one out. Senga ran to cover first base after a ground ball by CJ Abrams. Pete Alonso, the first baseman, fielded the ball, but his throw was high, forcing Senga to jump to catch it.
Upon landing on the base, Senga appeared to injure himself, grabbing his right thigh. After a brief conversation with manager Carlos Mendoza and the trainer, he had to leave the game.
Before leaving the game, Senga had allowed only one hit, and the Mets were leading 4-0.
Senga, 32 years old, came to the game with a record of 6-3. Before the injury, his effectiveness was 1.47, the best in MLB.
