Lorenzen (Royals) Down with Illness: Zerpa to the Mound Against Mets

Kansas City Royals right-handed pitcher Michael Lorenzen was scratched from Saturday’s start due to an illness.

Left-hander Angel Zerpa replaced Lorenzen for the game against the New York Mets, who were playing away.

Lorenzen, 33, is 5-8 with a 4.61 ERA in 18 starts this season.

Zerpa, 25 years old, has a 3-1 record with an ERA of 3.89 in 40 appearances from the bullpen this season. His last start was in August 2023.
