Landen Roupp Exits Game After Being Struck by a Line Drive

SAN DIEGO – San Francisco Giants right-handed pitcher Landen Roupp was carted off the field after being hit by a line drive from San Diego Padres’ Ramón Laureano in the third inning of Wednesday night’s game. Manager Bob Melvin reported that Roupp suffered a sprain in his left knee and would be sent back to San Francisco for an MRI, following the 8-1 defeat. Roupp left Petco Park on a stretcher with a large splint on his left knee. The impact of the hit on Roupp’s right thigh caused him to partially spin. He appeared to slip on the mound, his left knee buckled, and he fell to the ground face down. He sat up and held his left knee while being checked by a trainer before being put on the stretcher.

The ball hit him in the back of the leg, I think. It was when he grabbed it and then when he had to go for the ball again. I don’t know if he hyperextended it; it was scary for a second.

Joey Lucchesi replaced Roupp and allowed a three-run home run by Gavin Sheets, which gave the Padres a 6-0 lead. Roupp had been reinstated from the 15-day injured list on Friday, after missing three starts due to inflammation in his right elbow.
