Paul DeJong Left the Game After Being Hit by a Pitch
Washington Nationals third baseman Paul DeJong was hit in the face by a pitch from Pittsburgh Pirates right-handed pitcher Mitch Keller during Tuesday night’s game.
The incident occurred in the sixth inning, forcing DeJong to leave the game.
The throw hit DeJong in the left cheek. After receiving medical attention on the field, the player walked off.
According to manager Davey Martinez, DeJong will undergo a CT scan and the team is waiting to learn his status.
Amed Rosario entered as a pinch runner for DeJong, while the Nationals led the scoreboard 1-0. Washington finally defeated Pittsburgh with a score of 3-0.
At the time of the incident, DeJong was 0-for-2 and is batting .204 in 16 games this season.
DeJong signed with the Nationals as a free agent during spring training, after having connected 24 home runs with the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City last season.
