Joel Payamps is sent to the minor leagues by the Brewers

Right-handed reliever Joel Payamps, after being placed on assignment by the Milwaukee Brewers, has been sent to the minor leagues. The decision was made on Thursday, a week after the team designated him for assignment.

Payamps, 31, will report to Nashville, the Triple-A team affiliated with the Brewers.

After playing a crucial role in Milwaukee’s bullpen for the past two years, contributing to consecutive National League Central Division titles, Payamps has struggled this season. In 23 appearances, his record is 0-1 with a save and an ERA of 8.35, striking out 16 batters in 18 1/3 innings. Last year, Payamps had a 3-7 record with a 3.05 ERA and six saves in 68 games. In 2023, his performance was 7-5 with a 2.55 ERA and three saves in 69 appearances. Payamps has also played for the Arizona Diamondbacks (2019-20), the Toronto Blue Jays (2021), the Kansas City Royals (2022), and the Oakland Athletics (2022). In his career, he has a record of 14-22 with an ERA of 3.41 and 10 saves in 242 appearances, almost all as a reliever.
