JACKSON, Miss. – Vince Whaley had a heart-stopping moment during the Sanderson Farms Championship when he encountered an alligator while playing a shot. Whaley, known for his bravery in the field, did not flinch at the presence of the approximately six-foot reptile, which was observing him closely. The incident occurred on the 11th hole, a par 5, where Whaley had to play a shot from the water’s edge. At that moment, the golfer was only one stroke behind the leader.

Well, fortunately, I turned my back so I could focus on the hit for a second.

Whaley relied on his caddie to monitor the situation while focusing on his game. The alligator remained still, and Whaley managed an excellent shot, falling short of the putting surface and ultimately saving par. At the end of the day, Whaley signed a card of 67 strokes, which led him to tie for third place. Faced with the question of what he would have done if the alligator had moved, Whaley responded with a smile.

The plan was to run out of the water.
