Miranda Wang Leads the FM Championship After a Day Marked by Rain

In a day with constant interruptions due to rain at the TPC Boston, Miranda Wang achieved an outstanding performance that positioned her at the top of the FM Championship. With a total of 67 strokes, five under par, Wang completed her second round, obtaining a two-stroke lead over her competitors. The heavy rain forced significant delays, extending Wang’s playing time to approximately 10 hours to finish the round. Nelly Korda, who was scheduled to start in the afternoon, was only able to play four holes, achieving two birdies. Korda will resume her participation on Saturday morning. The number one in women’s golf, Jeeno Thitikul, joined Hannah Green and defending champion Lauren Coughlin in an effort to finish their round before the rain stopped play again. Green expressed her relief at avoiding another interruption.

I don’t think I could have prepared myself mentally for another delay.

Wang demonstrated his skill with 16 birdies in 36 holes, including an impressive streak at the start of the tournament with eight birdies in the first nine holes. His second round culminated with three consecutive birdies, although with some delays. The game was stopped when Wang was about to make an 8-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole. Upon resumption, two hours later, he made the putt, reaching a total of 11 under par (133 strokes).

I didn’t expect the weather because we didn’t see any storms in the forecast this morning. But, well, that’s golf. We’re playing in nature, so sometimes it’s unpredictable. We just have to deal with it and prepare mentally and physically for the storms, and try to stay calm and each time warm up as if you don’t stop and keep going.

Madelene Sagstrom, with a card of 66 strokes, was at 9 under par (135 strokes). Green (68), Azahara Munoz (68) and Celine Borge (66) were one stroke away. The LPGA hopes the tournament can regain its rhythm over the weekend, taking advantage of a favorable forecast. It is planned to make the cut and then organize three-player starts from both holes. Korda, who has yet to achieve a victory this year, will have to play 32 holes on Saturday, seeking to maintain her position to have a chance to win. Thitikul, who recently displaced Korda from the top spot in the world ranking, had an outstanding performance with four birdies in the second half of the course. With a total of 68 strokes, she is four strokes behind the leader. Thitikul, upon seeing the dark clouds, decided with his group to play the ninth hole without wasting time.

The security guard told us… three minutes remaining, so run, get ready and go. It was start and stop, start and stop. It was a little frustrating, but I’m glad I finished.

Miyu Yamashita (66) and Jodi Ewart Shadoff are also four strokes behind the leader. Shadoff, who led the first round, had a score of 72 strokes on Friday.
