Sebastian García leads the Australian PGA Championship, interrupted by storms

Sebastian Garcia’s outstanding performance at the Australian PGA Championship was temporarily halted by inclement weather in Brisbane. Garcia, with an impressive game, was at the top of the leaderboard after 15 holes, seven under par and with a three-stroke lead over his pursuers. The game was stopped due to electrical storms, forcing spectators to leave the field and leaving the continuation of the tournament in suspense.

With two par-fives to play, an even lower score could be in play. Other prominent golfers, such as Ryan Fox, Wenyi Ding, Tapio Pulkkanen, and Anthony Quayle, shared the lead in the clubhouse with four under par (67). Adam Scott and Min Woo Lee were one stroke behind, with rounds of 68. Cameron Smith, a three-time winner, finished with two under par, as did defending champion Elvis Smylie. Marc Leishman and Cam Davis, among other players, were at two under par with holes to play when the day was interrupted. The tournament also witnessed two holes-in-one, including Kazuma Kobori’s and Daniel Gale’s, who won a BMW. Smith, after intense preparation to recover his short game, achieved a 69, two under par. Champion Smith, who hasn’t secured a title in over two years, attributed his performance to chipping and putting practice. Lee lamented the misfortune of his final shot hitting the flagstick, settling for par. Scott, for his part, is looking for his first 72-hole victory since February 2020.
