Brooks Koepka Eyes Victory at the French Open
The American golfer Brooks Koepka, a five-time major champion, is in a privileged position at the French Open. Koepka, with an outstanding performance on Saturday, achieved a round of 65 strokes, six under par, which allowed him to tie at the top of the leaderboard. His goal is clear: to achieve his first victory in more than a year. Koepka completed an impressive streak of five consecutive birdies on the back nine, demonstrating his skill and determination. With a total of 11 under par (202), he shares the lead with Min Woo Lee. Min Woo Lee, for his part, also had an outstanding day, signing a card of 68 strokes. Both golfers lead by one stroke a trio of competitors, among whom is Michael Kim, another American participating in the tournament. This is the third consecutive week that Koepka has competed on the European Tour, after failing to make the cut at the Irish Open and the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. In addition, he failed to make the cut at three of the four major tournaments this year. Koepka’s last victory was in August 2024 at the LIV Golf League, in Greenbrier, West Virginia.Koepka attributed his good performance at the Golf de Saint-Nom-La-Bretèche mainly to his putting game. He achieved eight birdies during the round, but finished with a bogey on the 18th hole, a par 3, by missing a 6-foot putt. Min Woo Lee secured his first PGA Tour title this year at the Houston Open, although he didn’t manage to advance beyond one week in the FedEx Cup playoffs. Guido Migliozzi of Italy, with a round of 66, and Marcus Armitage of England, with 71 strokes, joined Michael Kim in the group that is one stroke behind the leaders. Kim completed his round with 66 strokes.I feel like my game has been going in the right direction. The results haven’t been there. I feel a lot closer. I’m happy with the work I’ve done in the last few months, and nothing has shown, so I hope to have the opportunity to win tomorrow.
