Viktor Hovland Withdraws from the Travelers Championship Due to Injury
Norwegian golfer Viktor Hovland was forced to withdraw from the Travelers Championship on Sunday due to a neck injury. The competition took place in Cromwell, Connecticut.
Hovland, 27, showed signs of pain on the first shot of the final hole, although he managed to par the first hole. After a bogey on the second hole, he withdrew from the course at TPC River Highlands.
The winner of seven PGA Tour titles had a standout performance on Saturday, with a round of 63 strokes under par. This put him in position for a possible top 10 in the last featured event of the PGA Tour year.
Hovland, currently ninth in the World Golf Ranking, began the tournament with a round of 66 strokes under par, followed by a 75 strokes over par before his recovery on Saturday.
The previous week, Hovland finished third in the U.S. Open. In his last six participations, he has achieved four results among the top 25. His goal is to recover to compete in The Open, which will be held in four weeks.
Eric Cole also withdrew on Sunday, in his case, due to an illness before the final round.
Cole, 37, had completed rounds of 68, 67 and 69 strokes, totaling 204 strokes, six under par, which placed him in 14th place after three rounds.
Cole, who was seeking his first PGA Tour victory, is ranked 77th in the World Golf Ranking.
