Fitzpatrick Responds to PGA President’s Statements

Following the recent Ryder Cup, the controversy continues. Matt Fitzpatrick, a prominent European golfer, has reacted to the comments made by the president of the PGA of America, Don Rea. Fitzpatrick called the comparison made by Rea between the behavior of the crowds at Bethpage Black and the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, venue of the 2023 edition of the tournament in Rome, “offensive to European fans.”

What the PGA of America guy said about it being the same in Rome… he clearly wasn’t there. Either he wasn’t there or he was listening to something else, because it was never like that. It’s always been playful, just banter. The interview with the PGA guy saying it was the same in Rome. That’s pretty offensive to the European fans.

Rea, when asked about the fans’ behavior towards Rory McIlroy, commented that similar situations occurred in Rome, something that Fitzpatrick categorically denies. The British golfer also expressed his dissatisfaction with Rea’s attitude during the trophy presentation ceremony, perceiving a lack of sincerity after the European victory by 15-13. Fitzpatrick and Justin Rose, according to their statements, felt that the congratulations were not genuine.
