Jon Rahm and Shane Lowry Return with Difficulties After the Ryder Cup

The golf world witnessed the return of Jon Rahm and Shane Lowry after their outstanding performance in the Ryder Cup, where Europe achieved victory. However, their return to action at the Spanish Open was not as they had hoped, with Rahm experiencing a tense moment with a marshal. After a drive that left him in the rough on the 8th hole, Rahm expressed his frustration. The marshal tried to encourage him, but Rahm responded firmly, asking not to be told that “it’s okay”.

“Don’t tell me it’s okay, please. Thank you.”

Jon Rahm
Rahm, despite making par on that hole, finished the day with a card of 72 strokes (+1), including a spectacular eagle from the bunker on the 14th hole. His round was marked by a birdie and four bogeys. Lowry, who sealed the European victory in the Ryder Cup, had a less favorable performance, with a round of 75 strokes (+4), the result of six bogeys and two birdies. The provisional leaders of the tournament are Englishman Marco Penge and Frenchman Frederic Lacroix, both with a card of 66 strokes (-5). Rahm seeks his fourth title at the Spanish Open, which would allow him to surpass Seve Ballesteros as the most successful golfer in the tournament since the creation of the European circuit in 1972. The Spaniard has won the tournament in 2018, 2019 and 2022, and was runner-up last year. It should be noted that the winner of this edition will obtain a direct place in the Masters and the Open Championship next year. The world’s number one tennis player, Carlos Alcaraz, was present on the course, closely following Rahm’s performance.
