Charlie Woods Wins at the AJGA Team TaylorMade Invitational
The son of golf legend Tiger Woods has shown his own talent on the course. Charlie Woods, 16, was crowned champion of the American Junior Golf Association’s Team TaylorMade Invitational, held at the Streamsong Resort Black Course.
Charlie shined with a final round of 6-under par, culminating an impressive performance that earned him his first AJGA title in five appearances. He competed against a field of 71 players, including four of the top five AJGA players.
His previous best performance at an AJGA event was a tie for 25th at the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley in March.
Woods, currently ranked 606th in the AJGA rankings, closed the tournament with a total score of 15 under par (201), thanks to a final round with eight birdies and two bogeys.
He secured the victory with a three-stroke lead over Luke Colton, Willie Gordon, and Phillip Dunham, who took second place.Young Woods began the day tied for second place with a score of 9 under par (135), after a first round of 70 strokes (2 under par) and a second round of 65 strokes.
Previously, Charlie had already achieved notable victories, including his triumph in the 14-15 age category at the Major Championship of the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour in June 2023. This was followed by the victory in the Last Chance Regional golf tournament that same year.
Earlier this month, Charlie attempted to qualify for the US Open, but was unsuccessful in his second attempt, with a round of 75 strokes (3 over par), seven strokes over the required score of 68 at the Wellington (Florida) Golf Club.
Last summer, Woods qualified to compete in the U.S. Junior Amateur, although he didn’t make the cut.
