Greyserman, Cauley, and Campbell Lead the Baycurrent Classic in Japan
In a remarkable opening day of the Baycurrent Classic in Japan, American golfers Max Greyserman, Bud Cauley, and Brian Campbell shared the top of the leaderboard, each with an impressive round of 67 strokes, four under par. This tournament, the only one on the PGA Tour held in Japan, moved this year to the Yokohama Country Club, after having taken place east of Tokyo since 2019 as the Zozo Championship. A group of eight players were one stroke behind the leaders, including Australian Adam Scott. Another seven competitors were two strokes away. Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa, both members of the American team that suffered defeat in the Ryder Cup, finished the day with a pair of 71 strokes. The defending champion, Nico Echavarria of Colombia, achieved a 70. Japanese Hideki Matsuyama, winner of the Masters in 2021, completed the first round with 72 strokes. Greyserman, who was the runner-up the previous year, losing by a single stroke on the 72nd hole, where Echavarria achieved a birdie.Greyserman described the first round as “very, very difficult” due to the strong winds. He also praised Echavarria, who is looking to defend his title. “Nico did it that week,” he commented. “So maybe I can do it this week.”I love playing in Japan.
