Adverse Weather Halts LPGA NW Arkansas Championship

ROGERS, Ark. – Heavy rain and dangerous weather conditions forced the LPGA Tour to suspend the second round of the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship on Saturday, before players could begin. This raises uncertainty about how much of the event can be completed.

The tournament, already the shortest on the calendar with 54 holes, could face a long day or a prolonged wait.

Due to the rain, no player completed more than three holes. The LPGA will announce on Sunday morning if Pinnacle Country Club is playable and the second round will resume at 7:10 a.m. CDT.

Sarah Schmelzel and Minami Katsu are tied for the lead at 8 under par. Alison Lee, in her third tournament since returning after giving birth to her son at the end of April, made a birdie and joined them at 8 under par before play was stopped.

The LPGA will decide before the second round resumes whether the tournament will be reduced to 36 holes or if it will try to complete the 54 holes. The LPGA has no events next week.

Stacy Lewis had the highest score in the inaugural tournament in 2007, when she was an amateur, but rain shortened the event to 18 holes and it was not considered official.
