Max Verstappen does not rule out the possibility of conquering his fifth Formula 1 world title, reducing the distance with the leader, Oscar Piastri, after his resounding victory in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Just two weeks after his triumph in Monza and with seven races remaining, Verstappen is 69 points behind Piastri in the overall standings. Piastri, in a weekend marked by errors, suffered an accident in qualifying and another on the first lap of Sunday’s race.
On Saturday, amidst the chaos in Baku, with a classification suspended on six occasions, Verstappen achieved pole position, while Norris qualified seventh. On Sunday, with Piastri out of the race on the first lap, Norris was unable to take advantage of the opportunity to score points, finishing in the starting position and seeing how the advantage over Verstappen was reduced to 44 points. The perfect weekend for the Dutch driver earned him his sixth Grand Slam (pole, fastest lap, victory, and leading every lap) in his career, tying Lewis Hamilton for second place in F1 history.Verstappen commented that this season has been variable, but at least he has had two consecutive very positive weekends. This weekend has been incredible for us. Last weekend was already great, but winning here again is fantastic.

McLaren team boss Andrea Stella has highlighted Verstappen’s consecutive victories. Stella commented that Red Bull seems to have improved and that Verstappen is a serious contender for the drivers’ championship. He stressed the need to stay focused and keep improving. There are seven races left and there’s still a 69-point difference, it’s a lot. Basically, everything has to be perfect on my part, and I also need a bit of luck. I don’t think about it, I just go race by race, trying to do my best and score as many points as I can. We’ll see after Abu Dhabi.
