In addition to the grid penalty, Stroll received two penalty points, totaling seven in a 12-month period. Drivers can be suspended for a race if they reach 12 points on their super license within a year.
The stewards’ report indicated that Stroll “attempted an overtake on the inside at Turn 1, but misjudged the braking point and collided with Ocon’s car.” The incident caused the second safety car of the 100 km race, after McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris collided on the first lap. The qualifying for Sunday’s race will begin at 4 p.m. local time.
