Lance Stroll Sanctioned with Grid Penalty
Lance Stroll has been penalized with five grid positions for Sunday’s United States Grand Prix, after causing a collision with Esteban Ocon during Saturday’s sprint race. The incident occurred at Turn 1, where Stroll collided with Ocon in the final stages of the race, which ended under the safety car. The stewards determined that the Aston Martin driver was responsible for the incident, imposing a grid penalty and two additional penalty points, totaling seven in a 12-month period.The collision caused the second safety car deployment in the 100 km race, after McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris collided at Turn 1 on the opening lap. The qualifying for Sunday’s race will start at 4 p.m. local time.“Car 18 attempted an overtake on the inside of car 31 at Turn 1, but misjudged the braking point and collided with car 31,” the stewards noted in their report.
