Leclerc Expresses Frustration After Singapore Grand Prix

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has expressed his disappointment after the Singapore Grand Prix, describing the feeling as “not pleasant” when having to adjust expectations about the car’s performance.

While Ferrari’s rivals compete for victories, the Italian team has yet to achieve any in the 2026 season. McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes have secured victories, including triumphs after the summer break.

George Russell of Mercedes took the second victory for his team at the Singapore Grand Prix. Leclerc and his teammate, Lewis Hamilton, struggled, finishing in sixth and eighth place respectively, due to brake issues. Leclerc commented that, from the eighth lap onwards, the race focused on brake management, which complicated his performance. A video of Leclerc having to lift off and slow down while being overtaken by Kimi Antonelli, from Mercedes, has gone viral.

Leclerc offered a candid assessment of Ferrari’s competitive position.

Unfortunately, we don’t have the car to compete with those ahead.

Leclerc added that McLaren has maintained a consistent advantage, Red Bull has improved since Monza, and Mercedes now competes at the same level as McLaren and Red Bull. Ferrari, on the other hand, has not been able to extract more performance from the car. Compared to the previous year, when Ferrari competed with McLaren in the constructors’ championship, the current situation is different. McLaren even secured this year’s championship, highlighting Ferrari’s drop in performance. Leclerc admitted that it’s not the most difficult season, but that not fighting for victories is complicated, especially after a year where they competed for the world championship. The driver explained that it is necessary to lower expectations and that the lack of progress throughout the year does not make things easier. Leclerc concluded that the situation requires a lot of energy and that, although it is difficult, it motivates him to try to change the situation.
