Leclerc Laments Ferrari’s Performance in Singapore

The driver Charles Leclerc expressed his disappointment after the Singapore Grand Prix, describing the feeling of “not being pleasant” when seeing how Ferrari struggles to compete with its rivals. While Ferrari has yet to achieve a victory in the 2026 season, McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes have secured wins, with at least two each, including triumphs after the summer break. George Russell gave Mercedes their second victory of the year in Singapore, while Leclerc and his teammate, Lewis Hamilton, struggled, finishing sixth and eighth respectively, due to brake problems.

From lap eight, it was basically about managing those brakes. It made our race very, very complicated.

Leclerc gave a sincere assessment of Ferrari’s position in the competition.

Unfortunately, we don’t have the race car to fight with those in front. McLaren always had the same gap to us compared to the beginning of the year. Red Bull took a step from Monza and the same level of McLaren.

The driver added that Mercedes is now at the same level as McLaren and Red Bull, and that Ferrari feels like “passengers” without being able to extract more performance from the car. In contrast to the previous year, when Ferrari competed with McLaren in the constructors’ championship, Leclerc acknowledged that the current situation is challenging. Leclerc commented that he wouldn’t describe the season as the most difficult, but that it’s complicated not to fight for victories and to have to lower expectations from the beginning.

Yes, I mean it takes a lot of energy, but that doesn’t demotivate me… it motivates me, if anything, much more to try to change the situation. But it is, I mean, it’s very hard, especially after a race like today’s, where you’re not even fighting for a podium, you have to manage a lot of problems. It’s just not a good feeling.
