Christian Horner in Aston Martin’s sights

Christian Horner, a key figure in Red Bull Racing’s success, could be on his way to Aston Martin. According to reports, Horner is considered a strong candidate to take on a leadership role in the Formula 1 team. Aston Martin seeks to reorganize its management structure, which could involve a change in the role of Andy Cowell, who previously led the development of Mercedes’ dominant engines. Sources indicate that Cowell could focus on Aston Martin’s power unit project, especially with the arrival of Honda as an engine partner from 2026. Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll has big ambitions to turn his team into champions under the new F1 regulations. This includes hiring designer Adrian Newey and building state-of-the-art facilities in Silverstone.

It is rumored that Horner is on the list of candidates to fill a leadership position. Other names mentioned include Andreas Seidl, former McLaren boss, and Mattia Binotto, former Ferrari director. Horner recently reached an agreement with Red Bull, which would allow him to return to Formula 1 at the beginning of 2026. It is speculated that Horner would not return to F1 only as team principal, but with a financial investment behind him. In Red Bull, Horner became CEO and team principal, but without significant shareholding. A move to Aston Martin would reunite Horner with Newey, who left Red Bull in 2023 to join Aston Martin as technical director and co-owner. Horner and Newey were fundamental in turning Red Bull into a dominant team in F1. While there were speculations about a possible rift between Horner and Newey, sources close to them indicate that they would have no problem working together again. A possible obstacle to Horner’s arrival at Aston Martin could be Lawrence Stroll’s desire to bring Max Verstappen to the team in the future. The relationship between Horner and Verstappen’s father, Jos, was tense in the past, although it is believed that Horner maintains a good relationship with the four-time world champion.
