Horner, Heading to Aston Martin?

Christian Horner could take on a leadership role at Aston Martin, according to sources close to the Formula 1 team. Aston Martin is reportedly considering a change in its management structure, and Horner is seen as a potential candidate. Sources indicate that Andy Cowell, current team principal, could be relocated to a role overseeing Aston Martin’s power unit project, as the team prepares for a new partnership with Honda starting in 2026. Lawrence Stroll, owner of Aston Martin, has big ambitions to turn his team into a champion under the new F1 regulations. This includes hiring Adrian Newey and building state-of-the-art facilities in Silverstone.

It is understood that Horner is on the list of candidates to fill the leadership void in some position. Other names that are also mentioned are Andreas Seidl and Mattia Binotto. Horner recently agreed to a deal with Red Bull, which would allow him to return to Formula 1 in early 2026. It has been speculated that Aston Martin is one of the most likely destinations for Horner, and it is suggested that his return would not be in a traditional team principal role, but with a financial stake. A move to Aston Martin would link Horner with Newey, who left Red Bull in 2023 to join Aston Martin as technical director. Horner and Newey were key to Red Bull’s success, which dominated F1 in the 2010s. While there was speculation about possible friction between Horner and Newey, sources indicate that they would have no problem working together again. A possible obstacle to Horner’s arrival at Aston Martin could be Lawrence Stroll’s desire to bring Max Verstappen to the team in the future. The relationship between Horner and Verstappen’s father, Jos, was tense, although it is believed that Horner and the four-time world champion maintain a good relationship.
