Horner, Next Aston Martin Leader in Formula 1?

Christian Horner could take on a leadership role at the Aston Martin Formula 1 team. This information suggests a possible significant change in the team’s structure. Aston Martin is reportedly considering a leadership change, which could imply a new direction for the team. Sources close to the situation have revealed these details. It is speculated that Andy Cowell, the current team director, could be relocated to a role overseeing the Aston Martin power unit project, especially with the new partnership with Honda starting in 2026. Lawrence Stroll, owner of Aston Martin, has big ambitions to turn his team into a champion under the new F1 regulations. This includes hiring Adrian Newey, a design legend, and building a state-of-the-art facility in Silverstone.
Horner would be on the list of candidates to fill the leadership position. Other names mentioned are Andreas Seidl and Mattia Binotto. Recently, Horner agreed to a deal with Red Bull, which would allow him to return to Formula 1 in early 2026. Horner’s return to F1 is expected not only as team principal, but with significant financial backing, possibly as part of an investment deal. A move to Aston Martin could reunite Horner with Newey, who left Red Bull in 2023 to join Aston Martin as technical director and co-owner of the team. Horner and Newey were key to Red Bull’s success, which dominated F1 in the 2010s and the beginning of the current decade. Despite speculation about a possible split between them, sources close to them claim that they would have no problem working together again. A factor to consider is Lawrence Stroll’s desire to bring Max Verstappen to the team if Aston Martin becomes a dominant force.
