Lewis Hamilton: Confessions After a Challenging Weekend in Hungary

Lewis Hamilton, after a complicated weekend at the Hungarian Grand Prix, has expressed his love for Ferrari despite suggesting that the team could consider changes in their drivers due to their poor performance. After a disappointing qualifying, Hamilton admitted to feeling “useless”.

The team has no problems. You can see that the car is on pole. They probably need to change drivers.

On Sunday, the situation did not improve for Hamilton, who started and finished in twelfth position. His teammate, Charles Leclerc, who started from pole position, finished in fourth position. Hamilton, who joined Ferrari with great expectation this year, looked dejected after the race in Budapest. When asked about his comments and how he felt, the seven-time champion replied that “there are many things going on in the background… that are not great.” When asked if he still loved to run, he replied: “Yes, I still love it… I still love the team”. Regarding the summer break and his participation in the upcoming race in Zandvoort on August 31st, Hamilton said: “I’m looking forward to coming back… I hope to come back, yes.” Despite having won eight times at Hungaroring, this weekend has been worrying for the 40-year-old driver. Apart from a victory in the sprint race in China, the results have been disappointing, with no podium finishes in a Grand Prix. At the end of the first lap, Hamilton fell behind Carlos Sainz and Antonelli, placing in fourteenth position. At the end of the eighth lap, he was 20 seconds behind Leclerc, who was leading in the other Ferrari, and at the end of lap 14, he was half a minute behind his teammate. When he left the pits on lap 43 for his only tire change, Hamilton was a lap behind the leaders. He managed to overtake Alpine’s Pierre Gasly and then Sainz to cross the line in twelfth place. The Briton is 42 points behind Leclerc, has been outperformed by his teammate in 10 of the 14 races and has only beaten him in two (Imola and Silverstone), still waiting for his first podium with Ferrari. Former boss Toto Wolff said he wasn’t surprised to hear Hamilton speak so frankly. “That’s Lewis showing his feelings. It’s what he thought when asked after the session,” said Wolff. “It was very raw. He was disappointed in himself. We’ve had it in the past when he felt he hadn’t met his own expectations.” “He has been emotionally transparent since he was a young adult.” “He will blame himself. But he is the GOAT [greatest of all time] and will always be the GOAT. Nothing will take that away, no weekend or racing season that hasn’t gone as planned. That’s something he should always remember: that he is the greatest of all time.”
