Alonso: The Mission to Take Aston Martin to the Top Before His Retirement

Fernando Alonso has expressed his firm determination to ensure that Aston Martin regains its competitiveness before hanging up his helmet. Although he acknowledges that the path to the championship is a process, he is optimistic about the team’s future. The Asturian driver, whose contract with Aston Martin ends in 2026, the year he turns 45, is clear about his objective. The ambitious head of Aston Martin, Lawrence Stroll, has set the new Formula 1 regulations that will come into effect next season as the key moment for the team to become a title contender. Stroll has secured an exclusive engine deal with Honda starting next season and, earlier this year, guaranteed the services of Adrian Newey, a legend in car design.

“I feel it’s very possible, for sure,” Alonso declared about the possibility of winning races again with Aston Martin.

The team has the right personnel and the necessary facilities, according to Alonso. However, the driver also warns that Formula 1 requires time for everything to fit perfectly.
Alonso has hinted that he might retire if he achieves a full season of competitiveness with Aston Martin next year, but he has also cautioned against excessive expectations, pointing out that there is no magic formula for success in this sport. “Here, it takes a couple of years until the organization is completely free of any friction or things that slow it down. I think we have a great opportunity to be competitive next year, but what I can say is that there is a guarantee that Aston Martin will be competitive in the next five or ten years,” concluded Alonso.
