Jorge Masvidal Wins Legal Victory Worth Millions Against Fanmio
UFC veteran Jorge Masvidal has secured a significant legal victory. A Florida judge awarded Masvidal a default judgment of over $5 million in his lawsuit against the online platform Fanmio. Judge Beatrice Butchko Sanchez approved Masvidal’s request, following the ruling of an arbitrator who awarded the former BMF champion $5,315,268.64, plus post-judgment interest. This lawsuit originated from Masvidal’s boxing match against Nate Diaz. Masvidal sued Fanmio in January, alleging that his agreement for the fight with Diaz included a $6 million purse, plus an additional $1 million if he won. After losing the fight by decision, Masvidal claimed to have received only a $150,000 advance and a $1 million payment. However, Fanmio still faces litigation with other fighters. Nate Diaz filed a lawsuit against Fanmio, claiming more than $9 million. An arbitrator awarded Diaz $6 million, plus attorney’s fees. This case is still awaiting final approval. In March, Fanmio filed a lawsuit against Golden Boy Promotions and Ryan Garcia for a canceled exhibition fight. The referee ruled in favor of Masvidal, resolving the matter with final approval.
