Katie Taylor Announces Retirement After Final Fight in Dublin: Croke Park in Sight
Katie Taylor is planning her retirement this year, seeking a final fight in Dublin. The undisputed champion in two weight categories, Katie Taylor (25-1, 6 KOs), originally from Bray, Ireland, has expressed her desire to fight at Croke Park stadium in Dublin. However, details about the opponent and the date have not yet been confirmed.

“I only want to fight in Dublin to finish my career,” Taylor told RTE on Wednesday. “Obviously, we still hope for Croke Park, we are holding onto the hope that it can happen.

Katie TaylorTaylor believes Croke Park would be the ideal venue for his farewell. Although the stadium has a capacity for 80,000 spectators, the possibility of fighting there is still up in the air. The fighter has also mentioned other options, such as the 3Arena, where she has already fought several times, and the Aviva Stadium. Taylor, promoted by Eddie Hearn and Matchroom, has fought to fight at the iconic Croke Park before, but has yet to headline an event at the stadium.

I think it would be absolutely remarkable if I could do it. I’m not sure if it will happen or not. Either way, I’ll finish my career here and I’m very, very excited about that,” she stated.

Taylor, 39, hasn’t fought since she defeated Amanda Serrano for the third time last year at Madison Square Garden. In September, she announced that she would take some time away from the sport. The 2012 Olympic gold medalist has only lost once in her professional career, to Chantelle Cameron in Dublin in May 2023. Taylor won the rematch later that year. Cameron has stated on multiple occasions that she wants a third fight, with a win for each. Taylor, considered one of the best and most influential female wrestlers of all time, turned professional after a distinguished amateur career that saw her win Olympic gold and five world championships. Although his next fight is not officially planned, he has made clear his intention to write a final chapter in his home country before hanging up his gloves.
