Anthony Joshua, the renowned boxer, is considering offers to fight in Ghana and Nigeria before an expected showdown against Tyson Fury in 2026, according to statements from Eddie Hearn, Matchroom promoter. Joshua, who will turn 36 next week, hasn’t been in the ring since his knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in September 2024. After recovering from an elbow injury, Hearn indicates that the boxer could return to action at the end of this year or in early 2026. Among the possible opponents for Joshua’s return are Martin Bakole and former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. Bakole, 33 years old and originally from Congo, is an option for a fight in Nigeria. Wilder, on the other hand, 40 years old, achieved only his second victory in six fights in June and is expected to fight in early 2026.
Hearn revealed that Joshua is motivated to become heavyweight world champion for a third time. Furthermore, proposals have been received from Africa, something that Joshua desires before retiring from boxing. Hearn commented that the priority for Joshua and his team is to secure a fight with his rival, Tyson Fury. Hearn has held talks with Turki Alalshikh, a key figure in the boxing world, about the possibility of a fight between Joshua and Fury. Hearn mentioned that Joshua has a great desire to face Fury, even expressing his longing to “knock him out”. The promoter also highlighted the importance of Joshua gaining momentum before a big fight in 2026. Hearn indicated that Alalshikh’s plan for Joshua includes the fight against Fury. Hearn believes Alalshikh is the right person to finalize the fight with Fury.Initially I thought not, but now it’s possible that Joshua will fight this year.
