The action was stopped with 30 seconds left in the sixth round, when both boxers clashed heads. Catterall suffered a cut above his right eye, while Eubank was cut on his left. Despite the fact that both boxers were willing to continue in the seventh round, the referee Bob Williams decided to stop the fight.

“I’m not saying it was intentional, but as soon as Harlem was cut, I thought he ran straight with his head,” Catterall stated in the ring after the fight.

Catterall also expressed his comfort in his first fight at welterweight, feeling superior to his less experienced opponent. For his part, Eubank requested an immediate rematch, considering the circumstances of the fight.

“There has to be a rematch. Fair play to Jack, he didn’t cancel the fight, but you saw what he was doing in there,” Eubank said. “I was coming into the fight wonderfully. We need to run it back right now. The decision went against me because they cut the fight short.”
