Boxing: Summary of the Most Notable Fights

The boxing world vibrated with exciting fights that reshaped the rankings and left an unforgettable taste for the fans. From Caracas, Venezuela, to Chicago, Illinois, the rings witnessed intense battles for titles and the search for a place at the top.

Carlos Cañizales Recaptures Super Flyweight Title

Carlos Cañizales avenged his defeat against Petchmanee CP Freshmart with a knockout in the fifth round. This triumph secured him the WBC light flyweight title and placed him at number 5 in the Alofoke Deportes ranking, displacing Freshmart.

Oscar Duarte Wins in the Super Lightweight Elimination

In Chicago, Oscar Duarte defeated Kenneth Sims Jr. by majority decision in an eliminator for the WBA super lightweight title. Despite the close and competitive fight, Duarte’s strength and constant pressure gave him the victory, opening the possibility for him to challenge champion Gary Antuanne Russell.

Prograis and Diaz Offer a Spectacle in the Co-Main Event

The co-main event between Regis Prograis and Joseph “Jojo” Diaz was the highlight of the weekend. The super-lightweight fight, between two former champions, unfolded as a meeting of boxers hungry for victory, offering a spectacle that Prograis won by unanimous decision. Prograis, with his effective jab, accumulated points over Díaz. However, Díaz managed to hit Prograis with a left hook in the first round. Despite the problems caused by an injury to his left eye in the fourth round, Díaz fought valiantly. Prograis was superior, keeping Díaz at bay with his jab and winning the fight.

I felt like I won the fight. My jab worked all night. I was connecting. I think he connected with some hard shots, but at the same time I was never [hurt]. He probably shook me the first time he caught me, but after that, he didn’t shake me anymore.

Regis Prograis
Both Prograis and Díaz remain outside the top 10 of the super lightweight division. Boxing rankings by division highlight the best in each weight category. These rankings will be updated based on recent results and performances. Boxers who have announced their move to a different division will be ranked in that new division, if applicable, only after fighting in that weight category. Boxers who currently hold titles in two divisions may be ranked in both. Boxers who have not competed in the last 12 months, and do not have a scheduled fight, will be removed from the rankings until they fight again. Any boxer who tests positive for a performance-enhancing substance will also be removed. That boxer will be eligible to re-enter the rankings after their next fight.
