Athletics acquire Wynns; Brewers claim Avans in MLB moves

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Athletics have bolstered their roster by acquiring catcher Austin Wynns from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for cash, according to an official announcement made on Sunday. In a further move, the Milwaukee Brewers claimed outfielder Drew Avans, who was on waivers, from the Athletics. Avans has been assigned to their Triple-A affiliate in Nashville. Wynns, 34, showed a standout performance with the Reds, batting .400 with an on-base percentage of .442, hitting 3 home runs and driving in 11 runs in 18 games.

Throughout his career, Wynns has maintained a batting average of .241, with an on-base percentage of .287, 16 home runs, and 74 RBIs in 256 games. He has played for the Baltimore Orioles (2018-21), San Francisco Giants (2022-23), Los Angeles Dodgers (2023), Colorado Rockies (2023), and Cincinnati Reds (2024-25).

Avans, who turns 29 this Friday, had a 1-for-15 record in seven games with the Athletics during the current season. In the Athletics’ Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas, he batted .328 with an on-base percentage of .414, including 4 home runs, 34 RBIs, and 16 stolen bases in 48 games.
